Nilgiri Wildlife and Environment Association was formed in the year 1877. It was started to protect wildlife and natural resources of Nilgiri hills. The head quarters of the organisation is located in Ooty and it has more than 500 active members. The NWEA oranganises events like trekking, bird watching and animal census.
